Move Forward with Confidence

Custom home inspections in Portland and the surrounding areas starting as low as $375!

We had Mike by our 100+ year old house to inspect some safety and structural concerns that had been worrying us. He was thorough and professional - listening well to a long list of questions and explaining his findings in layman's terms to set our minds at ease and also allow us to get a jump on some issues we had not considered. Mike went the extra mile-offering to return once the rains begin to check in on the moisture issues. I would heartily recommend Mike Check Home Inspections to anyone who is buying a new house or even just has concerns about their current home they would like addressed by a personable professional.

We hired Mike after encountering a moisture issue in the basement of our 90 year old house. This was so valuable and immediately helpful as he quickly discovered it was a condensation issue stemming from inefficiency with the roof and gutter system. He also caught items like paint issues and others which helps us to prioritize needed improvements. He was quickly communicative, pleasant, and personable throughout. Glad to know right who to go to next time!

Frequently Asked Questions

Mike inspecting a crawl space

A home inspection is an unbiased, non-invasive, visual examination of the condition of a home or structure. It is not a technically exhaustive exam but rather a general picture of the overall condition at the time of inspection.

Anybody who owns a house, is selling a house, or is looking to purchase a house can benefit from a home inspection. As the largest purchase most of us ever make, a home inspection brings clarity and peace of mind to the investment.

The cost of a home inspection is generally based on the square footage and age of what is being inspected. Please visit my cost section for general pricing. Discounts and sliding scale fees are also available.

Yes, you can. In fact I would encourage it. Get to know the house with me. As long as you are safe (no roofs, crawlspaces, touching electrical panels, etc. for you) this is the best way to really see the home in a snapshot of time.

As a homeowner or seller; prepare by keeping access free and clear to all the important components of your house (attic/electrical panel/crawlspaces/etc.). If I can’t get to it then I can’t see it. Be sure to have the electrical and water utilities on. As a buyer; prepare to get to know your perspective house. All houses have deficiencies. Some are very important to take care of right away. Some can be lived with. Let's take a look together.

The time it takes to perform a comprehensive home inspection can vary. The size, age, and condition of the house, as well as if there are crawlspaces and attics, multiple buildings, and whether or not I’m inspecting alone or with company all factor into the amount of time it takes to get a real accurate picture of the house. Typically a full house inspection takes 2-4 hours on site. I will then head back to my office to complete your report.

Reports will be completed promptly for all clients. Typically within 24 hours of the onsite inspection.

About Mike

Since high school I have enjoyed working in the trades. I have worked for contractors, property management companies, as well as for myself. Each of these experiences has given me a wide perspective of what a house is made up of and what is necessary to keep it safe and in good working order.

Married since ’07, my wife and I stay very busy raising our two boys. Sports, arts, entertainment, outdoor recreation, we take in much that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I am also a consistent community volunteer as well as a frequent blood donor. An accomplished musician since my teenage years I still can be found performing and teaching around the region. Mention music at your own discretion.

Why am I a Home Inspector and not a House Inspector? Simply put, a house is a structure with mechanical systems while a home is where we live our lives. I believe my dedication is to the enrichment of our home lives. Holidays, birthdays, many important events of our lives take place in homes. As a happy father of two I know very well the importance of a safe, working home. I take that attitude as my working mantra of a home inspector. What would I want for our family?

Of course a home is also a house and a house is probably the largest monetary decision most of us will ever make. We all want to make sound judgements based on facts. Knowledge is power. That’s where I come in. I can’t tell you what is right for you and your situation. I can inform you with an objective assessment of the house so you have what you need to move forward with confidence.
